NCAA Covid Safety Recap
NCAA Covid Safety Recap
Week.
Thursday marks the first day of the ncaa tournament games at mackey arena.
This game will allow up to 14-hundred people to pack into the complex per day.
News 18's micah upshaw is here in the studio this morning to explain the safety measures.
West lafayette leaders say this week is bringing both excitement and concerns.
While this once in a lifetime opportunity is bringing exposure to the city, it's also bringing new opportunities of covid-19 exposure.
The ncaa has its own set of safety rules.
But people attending the mackey arena game must follow the purdue and west lafayette covid-safety guidelines.
That means following the city's mask mandate and staying sanitized.
It also means not gathering in large groups.
City police will be looking out for large gatherings in public spaces like restaurants.
And purdue police will be focusing their patrol on private campus parties.
West lafayette mayor john dennis is hopeful fans will do the right thing.
Covid is not a new thing for us anymore, we've been under the umbrella of covid now for almost a year so people are aware of the do's and don'ts.
Dennis says police patrols will be increased as needed.
He says they will also be relying on the public to report any unsafe gatherings.
The city and purdue are really relying on the community to be their eyes and ears on game day.
If you see activity you believe violates covid-19 safety guidelines -- you're asked to call west lafayette police at 765-775-5200.
