WLPD adding social service position

Devon Moore will refer those experiencing mental health issues, homelessness, domestic violence, traumatic events, substance abuse and other crisis related situations to local resources.

Department is adding a new position to its force.

West lafayette is one of the few departments in the state to create a social service position.

Devon moore will work with wlpd officers as a social worker.

She will help with crisiintervention.

Moore will also refer those experiencing mental health issues, homelessness, domestic violence, traumatic events, substance abuse and other crisis related situations to local resources.

Chief troy harris says moore will be a liaison to community groups.

She will also provide training for officers.

Moore has spent the past 11 years with tippecanoe county youth services as a therapist, case manager, clinical program coordinator, clinical director, and deputy director.

Her first day is monday.
