SEVERE SPRING STORM
Severe weather rocked southwest louisiana today...bringing heavy rain and a possible tornado in saint landry parish.news fiftee's kenny darr spoke with one resident who describes what his wife heard...outside their home.
Stand-up: a few days in to spring and the weather wasted no time springing into action here in southwest louisiana...with severe storms throughout this morning.vo: heavy rain...and strong winds...swept across washington...knocking down trees and powerlines...leonard reed says he was at work when he got a call from his wife...describing what she thought was a tornado...right outside their home.sot: what made her really notice it was the cat on the porch had just started screaming and it was underneath the table on the porch and just shaking and tha's when she heard all of the loud noise.vo: reed is no stranger to tornados...having previously in tornado alley.
He says the difference between here and there...is knowing wha's coming.sot: there was one day that they sounded the alarms in weatherford, oklahoma and the tornado was probably about 11 miles away, so you get plenty warning.
This did't give anything.vo: fortunately for reed and his wife...their home received minor damage, but he says he wants to be prepared...for next time.sot: i actually been thinking about putting me a little basement shelter in just for events like this.tag: utility crews and tree crews have been working diligently since the storm began to pass over as they work to remove tree limbs and downed power lines from the streets...and restore power to the residents of washington...in washington...'m kenny darr...news fifteen.
The national weather service has't yet confirmed if a tornado did make its way through washington this morning...but w'll be sure to update you
