Governor andy beshear signed and vetoed several education bills today...inculding a controversial bill several state education leaders asked him not to sign.
That's tonight's top story at six.
House bill 563 would have set up tax credits allowing public school students to go to private the state education commissioner and several school district leaders were among those asking beshear to veto it.
The governor says he chose to do because the bill would have taken money away from public schools...creating greater economic disparity.
Beshear: "if it becomes law..
This measure would greatly harm public education in kentucky by taking money away from public schools and sending it to unaccountable private organizations with little oversight.

The group says this is going to impact parents.
Andrew: "they're going to be incredibly frustrated you know parents have had to handle a lot over this past year this has been an issue that parents have been demanding get done for years" it's asking the legislature to override the veto.
The governor also vetoed a bill that would've placed new teachers in a hybrid retirement plan...saying it would make it harder to attract good teachers.
He signed several education bills...including one that will allow school districts to let students have an extra year of school...if needed... because of the pandemic.
