New homeless outreach program meeting people as they are on the streets

Point of Contact Chico is a non-profit organization created to encourage and support individuals who are in need.

Texas tess is one of the many people living on the streets of chico.

She is searching for connection.

A new local group called "point of contact" is stepping in working to offer a hand up, not a hand out.

Take sot sergio martinez, founder of point of contact "we get familiar with the people and figure out what their needs are."

They are not building homes, but rather connections.

Take sot laurie maloney, founder "we need to connect with people individually, and by doing that we can get them to the right resource, and help these other organizations get people that fit their program into that program."

And a lot of people are very, very kind."

The co-founder of point of contact sergio martinez says the group is not like other homeless programs. take sot sergio martinez, founder of point of contact "sometimes it's just as simple as getting a phone call for somebody, connecting them to a family member or educating them on the resources that are actually here."

This new outreach group relies heavily on community donation, but for now most of the founders are dedicating their own time and money.
