It has been almost a year since residents at assisted living centers and nursing homes visited with their family members because of the pandemic.

Last week, for some facilities visitors were allowed back in.

Wtva's chelsea brown is live in prentiss county at one center where in person visits are now happening.

I am here at longwood community living center in booneville.

The center is now 100 percent vaccinated and case numbers around the city are down.

I spoke with one resident who told me how he is now that he gets to see his family again.

"its great, i get to see my grandbaby and my boys."

George scott has been at longwood for about three years now.

The director told me when they started visits back last week residents and employees were all in tears of joy.

Scott says he has had his sons come and pick him up a few times now and go out to eat.

He said the staff kept him company when his family wasnt able to visit because of the pandemic.

"you know, we had a lot of people in here to comfort us when we couldn't visit anybody."

He said one of the main activities they did was get together and play bingo.

Scott said he had the coronavirus and the staff helped him through it.

"i got through that part, and i've had both my shots.

The staff in here is really well to work with" she said visitors have to go through a screening process with a temperature check before visiting with their family.
