The Fort Wayne Fire Department is investigating multiple fires that happened over the weekend, including one deadly fire on Saturday, March 27.

Right now -- the fort wayne fire department continues its investigation into a number of house fires this weekend.a house fire satruday resulted in one death...and investigators say the house did not have a working smoke detector.fox 55's kelsey mannix reports on what officials say are easy ways to keep you and your family safe.

The cause of two house fires on march 27th and 28th... still unknown.

David hosick with the indiana department of homeland securiity says this is a reminder to brush up on fire safety...including where house fires commonly start.

David hosick, indiana dhs: cooking fires are the number one cause of house fires and in indiana that's no different.

Stand up: it's important to make sure items that could cause a fire like an oven or toaster are either turned off or unplugged before you leave or go to bed.david hosick, indiana dhs: these electrical devices and cooking devices are always a number one risk in starting a house fire.adam o'connor of the fort wayne fire department says late-night cooking and drinking alcohol pose a high risk as well.adam o'connor, fort wayne fd: we want to make sure people are being smart with their cooking, make sure they're being smart with their alcohol consumption, and also the one thing that can truly make a difference in that is working smoke detectors.

The national fire protection association says two thirds of deadly fires happen in homes that do not have working smoke alarms.the indiana d-h-s and local fire departments are working to change that with a project called get alarmed.
