Zumbro Education District heads back to school for full, in-person learning

All students and staff will go back in-person today with Fridays being a distance learning day.

Kimt news 3's madelyne watkins joins us live this morning to tell us what the school has planned for the future.

Good morning, madelyne./// brooke.

I am at zumbro education district in byron and if you take a look at this for sale sign here behind me... you obviously know this building won't be here much longer.

In fact... the district recently announced a brand new building that will serve all students and staff under one roof.

"* is a k through 12 publ school with students coming from 7 different school districts.

It provides services for special ed, at?

"* risk students and a transition program for students between the ages of 18 and 21.

Because students at zed learn differently than others... they've been able to have in?

*- person class throughout the pandemic.

The executive director, patrick gordon, tells me it wasn't always smooth sailing... but some good has come this past year.

"i try to be an optimist and we really have some good things coming out of this to be honest with you.

For some things, it took a pandemic and i hate to say it like that, but the virtual piece, some of the technology, learning some of the thing that we're able to do in a year or two or like this school year ?

"* some thins are going to stay permanent to be hones with you."

The new building will open in the fall of 2022 with the idea of being large enough to grow its services and enrollment.

The construction of it will begin this summer.
