Starting April 1, the government agency will give up to $9,000 per person with a maximum of $35,000 per application.

New at five - the federal emergency management agency is offering to pay a portion of funeral costs for covid-19 victims. starting april 1st, fema will give up to 9- thousand dollars per person.

There will be a maximum of 35- thousand per application.

That's because the applicant can apply for multiple people who've died.

The covid-related death must have happened after january 20, 2020 in the united states.

That includes the u-s territories and the district of columbia.

They must have been a u-s citizen, non- citizen national or qualified alien.

Tippecanoe county coroner carrie costello hopes this program can bring closure to the victim's families.

"i think maybe the recognition and the acknowledgment that covid was a contributing factor.

So, i don't know if that acknowledgment is helpful in the healing process, but i hope so."

According to a release from fema, an 800- number for applicants will be available in the coming weeks.

To apply you must have an official death certificate attbuting the death to covid.

You will also need funeral expense documents and proof of funds received from other sources for funeral costs.
