She is only 16 years old, but has made a name for herself as a passionate activist.

Salma abdi is a student at century high school, but also a familiar face at rochester city hall and anyplace else where debate is underway.

How did you get the attention of ms. magazine?

So i originally started, somebody nominated me.

For the people 25 under 25.

I unfortunately don't know who it is and that's how it started.

So i was on the short list for it and i found out through there.

The magazine points out her unfailing success making change in our community, advocating for a ban on conversion therapy and for native students to wear their traditional feathers at graduation.

So to get this kind of recognition, how gratifying is that?

It's beyond gratifying knowing there are people seeing the work that i'm doing.

People seeing the work all my fellow organizers and activists across the city the state, the work we're doing because it's really important and it's beyond gratifying.

Needless to say, abdi is hopeful this bit of national attention will help her continue to have an impact on the city she loves.
