A city in the golden triangle held a virtual forum tonight allowing all candidates in the upcoming local elections to tell folks why they'd make a great mayor.
Wtva's rhea thornton was in west point to give us insight the five candidates.
Late last year, current west point mayor robbie robinson announced he will not seek re-election.
Tonight, five new candidates dove into why they should be the next mayor of west point.
Each candidate had five minutes to present their platform to folks in the meeting.
Rod bobo was the first candidate to speak.
Bobo served as a city councilman for four years in west point.
He feels this background makes him the strongest candidate.
Rod bobo - mayoral candidate for west point: "at the very forefront of my platform is economic development and the expansion of our tax base.
The real crops of the matter is jobs, jobs, and more jobs."
Up next was cole bryan.
Bryan emphasized his work at the mission... helping those struggling with addiction.
He said like his work, bryan does not want to give up on the city of west point.
Cole bryan - mayoral candidate for west point: "i do feel a sense of responsibility to be a part of helping make west point what it once was or even better.
We do that through three core pillars of thought.
Those are three words: unity, progress, and prosperity."
West point business owner, tammy parkerson, said her focus is working together and cleaning up the city.
Tammy parkerson - mayoral candidate for west point: "i am running for mayor because i sincerely care about this city and the citizens of the city.
I want to see it grow and prosper in every way."
The fourth candidate, jennifer rene harper, was not originally from west point, however, since moving here, she feels she can bring a positive impact to her neighbors.
Jennifer rene harper - mayoral candidate for west point: "when people approach the leaders of the city with ideas to develop programs, events, tournaments, and businesses, the leaders must encourage them instead of discouraging them from pursuing their own passions."
And the final candidate to speak tonight was homer ryland.
He explained that he has several ideas ready to make west point better... homer ryland - mayoral candidate for west point: "this is not my first time running.
People out there know who i am.
They know what i stand for and they know the integrity that i have."
