Lookout Mountain House Fire

A woman is injured in an early morning house fire on the side of Lookout Mountain.

A woman is injured and a home is destroyed after an overnight fire on lookout mountain.

News 12's winston reed is live on the mountain to explain why the fire's location made it especially difficult to fight.

Chattanooga fire and a handful of other agencies were faced with this morning.

A steep incline on the moutain, narrow roads, and no immediate water supply.

Around 2 a-m on the 5 hundred block of lower cravens terrace fire crews were faced with a challenege that would require a performance that was nothing short of impressive.

"the driveway was very steep and very narrow.

So we weren't able to fit any of our fire trucks up that narrow lane."

All of the equipment, personel, and fire hose had to be walked down to the burning home.

A distance of about 2 hundred yards.

"that was taxing on the crews.

This came towards the end of a 24 hour shift for them."

Standup: in addition to the steep incline and the narrow road that fire crews had to deal with, they were faced with yet another obstacle.

The closest fire hydrant was 3 thousand feet away from the home.

"they laid a supply line all the way up the street then started running handlines off of that.

Then we started bringing tankers in to get water to the scene.

Shuttling water in and out.

We had tankers not only from the chattanooga fire department but also other departments.

Tri-com, highway 58, and waldens ridge came to assist us there as well."

One woman received medical care after suffering burns to her hand.

"the fire had spread to her vehicle.

She tried to move it further out of the way."

All residents made it out of the burning home.

The property is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
