Petco donates $42K to Tupelo-Lee Humane Society

The large donation will allow the Tupelo shelter to improves its transport program.

Society is smiling a little brighter today.

Wtva's rhea thornton is live at the tupelo-lee humane society to see how a local pet store is helping animals in the shelter find their forever home.

Petco love donated thousands of dollars to the tupelo-lee humane society this afternoon to give a boost to the shelter's transport program.

Rachel allred - executive director of tupelo-lee humane society: "everybody deserves a loving home including pets in our community."

She said from january to march, the shelter took in over 900 animals.

In order to ensure more pets find their forever homes, petco donated 42-thousand dollars to the shelter.

The donation allows for the purchase of a vehicle to enhance its transport program .

There's a lot of animals that need help out there and us helping them is going to help them get the funds they need to keep helping more animals and that's really all we want for them."

The transport program relocates pets across the country... giving them a chance to find a loving home... and giving the humane society a chance to take in more animals.

Allred believes programs like these can be life changing for so many animals.

Rachel allred - executive director of tupelo-lee humane society: "to help support our transport program or any other lifesaving programs that we have here, it's very very important to our community that we have that support so that that way we can in turn save more lives and help more people."

Currently tupelo-lee humane society has 122 animals inside the building looking for a forever home.
