Proposed legislation could change Indiana's teacher training requirements

Senate bill 205 would allow teachers to get their licenses through alternative programs. that's opposed to the traditional four year college requirement.

There would also be one year of clinical experience.

Klinker also doesn't believe it will encourage more people to become educators.

"the bottom line is we need to be working on incentives for teaching with dollars and cents at this point rather than having an online situation."

The bill also says alternative program graduates may not teach a special education course or be a teacher of record for a special education student.

We reached out to one of the bill's authors, republican state senator brian buchanan.

He was not able to get back with us.

The bill now goes to the senate for a final vote.
