Facebook Enters Audio Space With Soundbites, Live Rooms and Podcasts.

On April 19, the social media giant announced new tools for creating and sharing audio.

The move follows the recent rise of audio-based content via podcasts and platforms such as Clubhouse and Twitter Spaces.

Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook wants to "treat audio as a first-class medium in the way that we treat photos and videos." .

One of its offerings is called Live Audio Rooms. .

It will be tested in Facebook Groups and later incorporated into Messenger, becoming available to everyone later this year.

Podcasts and another product called "Soundbites" will also be coming to the platform.

"Soundbites" will first be available to a select number of creators, allowing them to make short-form audio clips with captions.

Facebook intends for creators to be able to monetize these new audio tools.
