As many as eight members of a family died in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur after consuming homeopathy medicine Drosera 30, which one official said, contains 91 percent alcohol.
Five more people, who consumed the syrup, are hospitalised.
The incident was reported from the Kormi village of Sirgitti town in Bilaspur.
District's CMO Pramod Mahajan said the doctor who prescribed the homeopathy medicine has been absconding, and investigation is underway in the matter.
