Palestinians relaxed on the sea shore of Khan Yunis in Gaza on Thursday 17 June, after a ceasefire with Israel took effect on 21 May.

The beach is one of the only places that residents of the Strip can rest, amid continuing tensions with their neighbour.

The recent conflict was the worst outbreak of fighting in years and saw at least 248 Palestinians, including 66 children, killed by Israeli bombing.

The conflict flared up again later on Thursday (17 June) as militants in Gaza launched incendiary balloons at Israel after its government allowed far-right Jewish nationalists, some of whom chanted “Death to Arabs”, to parade through Arab neighbourhoods in Jerusalem.

Israel responded to the balloons with aerial bombings.
