When Ukrainian soldiers marched on a Crimean airbase to reclaim it from Russian forces there was a tense stand-off as Moscow reasserted its claim to the peninsula.
Now, eight years on, Moscow is using the Crimea as one of its launchpads for the invasion of Ukraine.
