Former Police Dog 'Cries' After Reuniting With Handler She Hasn't Seen For Years A retired police dog broke down when she was reunited with her old handler.
Wangwang worked as a sniffer dog at security checkpoints in Xichuan county in Henan province, central China.
The eight-year-old German Shepherd was adopted after she retired in June 2019, the Daily Star reported.
The move meant that Wangwang and her handler were separated after years working together.
Last month, the police handler decided to give a surprise visit to his furry pal while patrolling in a neighbourhood near Wangwang's home.
In a recent clip shared on Xichuan Police's Douyin account – the Chinese version of TikTok - the police officer can be seen calling for Wangwang from outside her home.
Clearly realising who it is, the excited dog rushes out of the front door and into his arms. While rubbing up against the police officer's legs Wangwang appears to let out a little cry.
Viewers of the video had their hearts melted at the adorable pooch's emotional reunion.
One wrote: "The dog is welling up.
Dogs are really loyal companions, please treat her well!" "You can tell how much Wangwang misses her handler," a second commented.
"You can understand when the dog greets you belly up." Some viewers wondered why Wangwang was not allowed to stay with her handler, who she is so clearly attached to.
Xichuan Police answered in the comments: "Police dogs are generally well fed at the training center but our officers could not dedicate their time to play or exercise with retired dogs.
"They will be better looked after in a suitable family than staying in the training center."
