When the Americans needed Pakistan’s support in driving the Soviets out of Afghanistan, they quietly looked the other way as Islamabad put the finishing touches on a nuclear bomb.
Around 40 years later, the same powers are at loggerheads, this time over Ukraine, whose president announced a few months ago his interest in developing nuclear weapons.
