Stock Market:Sensex surges a whopping 1377 points in trade. LIC shares end almost 8% lower |Oneindia

The 30-stock BSE index rose 1,345 points, or 2.54%, to 54,318 points, while the wider Nifty50 index rose 417 points, or 2.6 percent, to 16,259.

The BSE MidCap and Smallcap indices also rose 2.5 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively, in the broader market.
