Covid and flu 'pile enormous pressure' on NHS

The National Medical Director of NHS England has said this winter's coronavirus and flu cases have been "piling enormous pressure on NHS services that are already very stretched".

Professor Stephen Powis warned of "a lot of uncertainty" over the direction of infection rates, adding that despite planning for a winter spike, the health service will "undoubtedly" continue to feel the strain.
