Jackson graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, which she attended on scholarship, CNN reports.
She went on to star on London's West End and debuted on Broadway in 1965.
Her first Oscar for best actress was awarded for her role in 1969's "Women in Love.".
Her second Academy Award was for her work in 1973's "A Touch of Class.".
Jackson delved into politics in 1992, at which point she became a Labour MP.
She ran for mayor of London in 2000 but lost to Ken Livingstone.
In 2018, Jackson won a Tony Award for her part in "Three Tall Women."
