A summer heat wave that has baked Texas over the past two weeks will spread to other Southern states in the coming days, the National Weather Service warned on Monday.
With triple-digit temperatures expected over a wide swath of the South, the NWS posted heat advisories and warnings in parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Arizona.
Texas heat last week was flirting with the state’s hottest temperature on record: 120 degrees.
Rio Grande Village hit 119 degrees on Friday, and it is forecasted to hit that again on Tuesday.
All told, there have been more than a dozen record highs broken so far this month.
Temperatures this week will top out in the triple digits for multiple Texas cities such as Midland, Corpus Christi, and Houston.
