The 4th of July is not "Independence Day".
As Alexis de Tocqueville said, "The Revolution in the United States was produced by a mature and thoughtful taste for liberty, and not by a vague and undefined instinct for independence." These days the American "taste for liberty" has given way to a hunger for distraction and entertainment.
Lately the French have outshined the American people with its willingness to confront tyranny directly.
