CNN reports that two sources have confirmed that Trump did receive a letter.
Jack Smith is currently a special counsel with the U.S. Department of Justice.
The target letter is the second that Smith has sent to Trump this year.
It indicates that Trump is the focus of an investigation into attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election.
The grand jury investigating interference in the 2020 election also meets on July 18.
In his post, Trump framed his efforts to overturn the result in his favor as constitutionally protected rights.
