Samarkand is one of the most famous historical cities of Uzbekistan.
Once the caravans of the Great Silk Road passed here.
It was Samarkand that was the capital of the empire of Amir Timur (Tamerlane).
Timur's grandson – Ulugbek – made the city the center of scientific and cultural life of the East.
Architectural monuments of the Middle Ages have been preserved here, many of which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
