Her cause of death has not yet been revealed, but the "Nothing Compares 2 U" singer was outspoken about her struggles with mental illness, 'Variety' reports.
She attempted suicide in 1999 at the age of 33.
In 2017, she posted a video to Facebook saying that she had wanted to die for years and was only alive because of her psychiatrists and doctor.
Her 17-year-old son, Shane, died by suicide last year.
Earlier this month, O'Connor revealed that she was wrapping up an album to release next year.
She also shared plans to tour internationally in 2024 and 2025.
Over the course of her career, O'Connor found herself immersed in controversy due to her outspoken nature.
Such as the time she ripped up a picture of Pope John Paul II while singing Bob Marley's "War" on 'Saturday Night Live.'.
She was nominated for several awards throughout her career and took home a Grammy for her second album, 'I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got.'.
