Meteorologist Grant Skinner gives an update on the tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin.
The News 5 First Alert Storm Team is tracking two named storms: Hurricane Lee and Tropical Storm Margot.
Lee has weakened due to about 15-20 kt wind shear out of the southwest.
It is now a category 2 hurricane, but the wind shear is expected to become less impactful and will likely strengthen again.
The current track and forecast models continue to be consistent taking this north of the Caribbean and staying in the Atlantic.
It poses no threat to the Gulf Coast.
Rough surf and a high risk for rip currents will still be very likely along the west Atlantic beaches.
Canadian maritime provinces will also need to monitor the latest tracks on this storm.
Tropical Storm Margot continues to meander in the eastern Atlantic, and it is expected to strengthen into a category 1 hurricane.
This storm poses no threat to the U.S. or Gulf Coast.
There are two new areas to watch in the tropical Atlantic.
One is an area of low pressure off the west coast of Africa that has a low (30 percent) chance of formation over the next seven days.
Another is a tropical wave that is expected to move off the west coast of Africa, and it also has a low (30 percent) chance of formation over the next seven days.
