The Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, has announced a ban on the importation of secondhand clothes into Uganda, a policy that could affect the retail habits of millions and the jobs of thousands.
"If they come and ban us, we are going to lose our jobs," one shop owner tells AFP, but the government argues that the trade harms the textile industry, and that new, domestically produced clothing could "replace secondhand clothings in a pretty short time".
