A magnitude-5.2 earthquake struck the region on Tuesday at around 09:46 local time.
The China Earthquake Networks Center reported it as a magnitude-5.5 quake, hitting China's northwestern Xinjiang area.
The epicentre was approximately 110 km west of Tumxuk, with a depth of 10 km.
This 5.5 magnitude tremor comes hours after a magnitude-6.2 earthquake in a cold and mountainous region in northwestern China killed at least 111 people.
In the earlier tremor, more than 230 were left injured.
