The Great Serpent Mound is a 1,348-foot long, prehistoric effigy mound on a plateau of a meteor crater in Adams County, Ohio.
It has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of Interior as well as a World Heritage Site.
The Serpent Mound of Ohio was first reported from surveys by Ephraim Squire and Edwin Davis in their historic volume Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley, published in 1848 by the Smithsonian Museum.
The mound is the largest effigy in North America.
Located about 1 hour east of Cincinnati this site is both mysterious and fascinating.
