Kenya's Kelvin Kiptum, the 24-year-old holder of the men's marathon world record, tragically lost his life in a road accident along with his coach, Rwanda's Gervais Hakizimana, on a western Kenyan road this past Sunday.
Kiptum, heralded as a rising star in the marathon world, made headlines in 2023 by surpassing the record set by his compatriot Eliud Kipchoge, completing the 26.2 miles in an astounding two hours and 35 seconds during the Chicago Marathon.
