Authorities in Victoria are urging over 30,000 residents to evacuate their homes as the state braces for what could be its most severe fire day in four years.
With temperatures expected to soar into the mid-40s in certain areas, officials are sounding the alarm particularly for those residing between Ballarat and Ararat in Victoria's west.
Victoria's Emergency Management commissioner, Rick Nugent, emphasised the urgency, stating that residents in towns like Amphitheatre, Beaufort, Clunes, Elmhurst, Lexton, Glenbrae, and Learmonth would receive evacuation notices via text message on Tuesday.
The looming threat stems from hot and windy conditions forecasted for Wednesday, which could exacerbate an ongoing bushfire near Bayindeen, north-west of Ballarat, potentially putting nearby towns at risk.
