Jonathan Ashworth said the "only poll that matters is on election day" after a YouGov snap poll revealed Rishi Sunak had a narrow lead over Sir Keir Starmer.
The poll showed 51% thought Sunak performed better, compared to 49% for his Labour Party rival Keir Starmer.
