Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences for the tragic collision involving the Kanchenjunga Express and a goods train near Rangapani station in West Bengal.
Describing the incident as "extremely unfortunate," Sarma extended his sympathy to the families of the deceased and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
A special train has left the accident site for Sealdah, according to the Railway PRO, who noted that most of the passengers are from Malda and Bolpur.
The collision has resulted in at least 15 fatalities and around 60 injuries.
The Assam government is closely monitoring the situation and has committed to providing all necessary assistance as required.
