Today we look at how the Apostle John’s who is writing his Gospel quite some time after Jesus’ death and resurrection and therefore some of his readers would not have seen the risen Jesus; but there was a strong possibility that a friend had told them that despite what the guards had reported about Jesus body being stolen they had actually seen Jesus very much alive and well; but they had had trouble believing them.
And John from his own experience, understands how hard it is to believe that Jesus did rise from the dead and that Jesus being alive was vastly different to Lazarus and the others who would go on to die again.
And John realising that he was not only one of the disciples who had lived with Jesus, he was also; among one of the last eye witnesses to the resurrected Jesus.
And so in chapter 20 John gives us a brief look at some of Jesus’ followers responses to His resurrection.
And perhaps you will recognise some of your faith journey in their reactions.
