A promise was fulfilled today in Paris as mayor Anne Hidalgo went for a dip in the Seine river.
The swim was intended to ease public concern over the river's cleanliness ahead of the 2024 Olympic games.
The Seine will host three triathlon events and marathon swimming races over the course of the games, despite being declared unsafe for swimming since 1923.
The Paris government has reportedly invested nearly 1.5 billion euros into cleaning up the river, however many are still skeptical of its cleanliness as high levels of E.
Coli were found in parts of the river as recently as early July.

Convicted Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed requests new trial following the dismissal of Alec Baldwin's involuntary manslaughter case.
The 27-year-old armorer was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty for the involuntary manslaughter of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October of 2021.
Baldwin, who was holding the gun at the time of the incident, was also on trial for involuntary manslaughter, but his charges were dismissed once it was discovered that the prosecution had withheld evidence that possibly held a key role in the case.
Gutierrez-Reed's attorneys have since filed a motion to have her case retried or dismissed in light of this new evidence.
