Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has announced that Russia's advanced Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile system will soon be deployed in Belarus, raising concerns over escalating tensions in Eastern Europe.
The missile, capable of carrying multiple warheads, including nuclear ones, will be stationed near the Belarus-Russia border, close to the city of Smolensk.
The move follows an agreement between Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin, who plans to send the system to Belarus ahead of Russia’s own deployment.
The Oreshnik missile has already been used in Ukraine, striking key targets with its supersonic speed, and is seen as a potent new threat.
This development is expected to intensify the security risk for Ukraine, as Belarus deepens its military alignment with Russia.
