Two people were killed and two others injured after a Lancair 360 and a Cessna 172 collided mid-air near Marana Regional Airport in Arizona.
The Cessna landed safely, while the Lancair crashed and caught fire.
The airport operates without an air traffic control tower, raising fresh concerns about safety in uncontrolled airspace.
The NTSB and FAA have launched an investigation.
