PM: The state is weaker than ever

The prime minister said the state is "weaker than ever" as he set out his reforms to the public sector in a speech on Thursday.

Sir Keir Starmer said: "I've always believed in the power in government, and I've seen it at its best." Mr Starmer pointed out that the state currently employs more people than it has for decades, but said he does not see "good value everywhere", and it is "weaker than it has ever been".
