In an EXCLUSIVE Interview with Times Now World, Economist Jeffrey Sachs has criticized Europe’s inability to independently support Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia, arguing that the continent lacks the financial and military capacity to replace waning U.S. backing.
In an interview, Sachs accused European leaders of surrendering foreign policy autonomy to Washington since 2008, when NATO enlargement to Ukraine and Georgia was endorsed under U.S. pressure, and faulted them for prioritizing talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over direct diplomacy with Russia’s Vladimir Putin.
He also slammed Zelensky for rejecting peace opportunities, such as the 2022 Istanbul draft agreement, warning that continued resistance risks further territorial losses and civilian deaths.
Sachs blamed U.S. influence for Zelensky’s “reckless” strategy, claiming it has turned Ukraine into a cautionary tale of dependency, while urging Europe to reclaim its geopolitical voice to avert further escalation.
