Pope Francis, the first Latin American and Jesuit leader of the Roman Catholic Church, has died at the age of 88, the Vatican announced Monday.
His death comes just a day after he made a public appearance on Easter Sunday, addressing over 35,000 worshippers from the balcony of St.
Peter’s Basilica.
Due to ill health, he delegated the traditional Urbi et Orbi Easter benediction to an aide but delivered a powerful message calling for peace, freedom of expression, and religious tolerance.
