Tensions flared over the Baltic Sea as two Swedish fighter jets under NATO command intercepted and escorted a Russian IL-20 “Coot” reconnaissance aircraft flying dangerously close to Polish airspace.
The dramatic aerial standoff, confirmed by Sweden’s armed forces, comes just days after British RAF jets similarly intercepted Russian planes.
With NATO forces on high alert and repeated Russian incursions near member states, the alliance warns it is fully prepared to retaliate if provoked further.
