The missile is equipped with six warheads, each reportedly containing submunitions, and is described as highly difficult to intercept. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh has identified the Oreshnik as a variant of the RS-26 Rubezh quasi-ballistic missile. A defense expert at the University of Oslo suggested that it likely incorporates no more than 10% new components.
