2 UNA Employees, 1 Student Test Positive

The recently discovered cases of coronavirus at UNA are the first cases reported by the university.

New information -- you're taking a live look at the university of north alabama.

Today -- we learned two employees and one student tested positive for coronavirus.

These are the first cases reported by the university.

Back on march 16 -- it shifted to online only courses.

Waay31's megan reyna joins us live.

She spoke to a recent graduate on how this past semester has gone... and concerns for students in the fall.

This was definitely not the senior year margaret carpenter planned for.

However -- due to the pandemic -- she understood why the campus was cleared.

Since march 16 -- faculty and staff have had limited access to campus buildings.

So there are still some people on campus.

Now the vice president for student affairs said the university has measures in place if someone tests positive for coronavirus .

This includes contact tracing... so they can determine who else on campus may have come in contact with these three people.

Carpenter says even though she's now a graduate -- she expects the fall to still be different for new and returning students.

"i don't know if anybody feels like we're going to get back to normal in the next few months, i don't know if anyone has those expectations, so i feel like everybody is cautious and feeling things out these next few months."

Carpenter adds the swift adjustment to online learning was difficult and some students didn't have the right resources for it.

Now the university did say despite these positive cases -- it is still on track to welcome students to campus but with social distancing measures in place.
