I'm hunter petroviak.thanks for joining us..the states largest public school system revealed the return to learn plan for the upcoming school year today.

Fox 55's jeremy masukevich is live with what changes fort wayne community school parents can expect when their students head back to class.jeremy?

Hunter fort wayne community schools superintendent mark daniel says they had 3 major concerns while crafting their return to learn plan.one - the safety of staff and students.

Two - educating teachers on how to teach a new kind of learning.and three - ensuring the plan is more than just academics, but also addresses students' social and emotional well being.

Fwcs superintendent mark daniels says it's crucial that they give parents different options for their children to learn.

Lower third: mark daniels, fwcs superintendent sot danielsour parents will have the option for remote learning.

I think its absolutely critical we allow parents to have choice and we are presenting that as a viable alternative for being in the building everyday the fwcs return to learn plan has students pre-k through fifth grade attending school monday through friday.secondary students in grades six through twelve will be enrolling in a blended learning curriculum.

Sot daniels blended meaning we are going to have two groups of students.

Those students if you are group one you will come in a monday and thursday format and alternate on wednesdays.

The other group, group two, will come on wednesdays and fridays and alternate every other week with a wednesday opportunity.

Meals will be delivered to students in the classroom, and face shields will be installed in high traffic areas.students will also be given a disposable face mask at the start of each school day.sot danielswe are going to say face coverings are absolutely required for all of our students.

Yes pre-k through 12 and all staff.fwcs will equip students who choose remote learning with the tools they need to succeed from home.

Lower third: julie hollingsworth, fwcs school board president sot julie i'm sure that will be the first order of business to hand out devices, hand out computer bags.

Make sure that every family is connected.daniels says the fwcs staff learned a lot about remote learning at the end of last year helping them ensure students at home won't be at a disadvantage sot daniels the expectation also parents students need to get online, students need to connect.

There will be an attendance requirement, and there will be assessments taking place.

We didn't have that in the spring, so now the accountability peace is there as well.daniels says they would be happy to welcome all students back but respects the parents with concerns about sending their children backsot daniels i'm very appreciative that we do have parents who understand the complexity of the situation, understand the flexibility that we are going to have to rely on, and the pivoting that is going to be necessary.

Now superintendent daniel did say parents should expect adjustments as they get closer to welcoming students back august 10th.fwcs parents will have until wednesday july 29th to decide if there student will be learning in the classroom or remotely.for now reporting live in fort wayne, jeremy masukevich, fox
