Free School Haircuts

Tupelo Barbers at 'B-N Styled' barbershop are giving away free haircuts to give students a sense of normalcy.

Students get ready to return to school across the area, there are some essentials and those can add up.

Wcbi's allie martin tells us about two organizations that teamed up with a barber shop to help with some of the expense of starting a new school year.

With each haircut nats barbers at "b-n- style' barbershop are helping students get ready to return to school.

They provided free haircuts monday morning at their tupelo barbershop.

"it is a big deal especially right now, you want to give these kids some sense of normalcy, so it's not so chaotic, and they can focus and concentrate more on learning than on everything else that's going on."

The outreach was called "youth make a difference day" and it was organized by two groups, "jewell's mentoring" and the "millennial outreach foundation."

Along with the haircuts, backpacks of school supplies were also provided, while they lasted.

Organizers say they were looking for a way to help families with school age children.

"i want to be influential and send out a message to be encouraging, and let the community know there's someone thinking about them, and they don't have to fight any battles alone."

"a lot of times to be honest, a lot of people can't afford a back to school haircut or school supplies, these events are very much needed , even aside from money aspect, showing we do care."

Parents and students appreciated the outreach.

"it means a lot to me and for the community, it's a big deal" "we hadn't had a haircut in a long time, this is a good thing to do for us, we are going back to school and really need it" with school supplies and haircuts taken care of, chrishton and his brother leonard are now ready to shop for back to school fashions.
