State health officials are changing the way they track COVID-19 cases

Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box says this will give the state more information on how COVID is spreading.

The way they track covid-19 cases.

Prior to this, if someone was tested more than once, officals (only counted the person once.

Health commissioner dr. kristina box says it was the right approach to begin with.

She says that's because they were not seeing people tested multiple times when the pandemic began.

Now they are basing it on the number of positive cases divided by the number of tests.

Box says this will give the state more imformation on how covid is spreading.

It will also help compare the numbers to other states using the same method.

"the cdc doesn't tell states how to calculate the positivity rate.

We've used the method that you've seen reflected on the dashboard, but we want to be transparent and share as much data as possible."

Box says they are still using both methods to find the trend of positive cases.

She says each way it's calculated has the same outcome.
