"eat in the streets" begins in downtown terre haute.

Many of the local restaurants say..

They've struggled amid the covid-19 pandemic.

News 10's..

"dominic miranda" spoke with a couple of downtown restaurant owners today.

I'm here on the corner of 7th street and wabash avenue across from the verve here in downtown terre haute.

It's just one of the locations that will be closed off to traffic to allow for eat in the streets to happen.

This initiative will allow for people to come eat outside at distanced tables to enjoy a meal while also helping out local businesses.

Here's how it will work picnic tables provided by the city will be all over wabash avenue for customers to sit outside and enjoy a meal.

Miracle on 7th street has provided barriers to block off the streets.

Street closures wil begin at midnight tonight and extend to sunday at 3 a-m.

Wabash avenue from the corner of 7th street to j.

Gumbo's will be closed... as well as wabash from 5th street to taco's and tequila's.

Restaurants participating will be saratoga, taco and tequila's, roly poly, and 5th street nutrition... as well as the verve, chava's mexican grill, j.

Gumbo's, and crossroads caé.

Owner of the verve connie wrin is heading up the idea.

She explains what this will look like and the initiative's purpose //////// "doing this will hopefully make people feel comfortable, tables will be six feet apart we will practice all the guidelines that the governor has put forward for us to follow and we're just hoping people come out and support us so we can stay open through this."
